I thought I would let you all know about a Horse/Donkey Sanctuary I have found that is in need of help.  I know a lot of us already assist with Horse rescue in the Uk - and it is a worthwhile cause BUT I wonder how many of you have ever considered the health and welfare of horses/donkeys outside of the UK.

In Gambia where I go to on holiday horses and donkeys are used to do a job.  Pleasure does not come into it.  The animals in some cases are not very well looked after but a lot of the time this is due to ignorance not deliberate cruelty.  Education is what is needed.

I would like you all to take a look at the work of an English woman and her colleagues in the Gambia and let me know if you can help.

It does not have to be with money.  The Sanctuary are very short of equipment e.g. Head Collars, Lead ropes, Snaffle bits.

If you have any old 4" or 4.5" snaffles or pony or Cob head collars etc., please bring them to one of our competitions and I will arrange for them to be sent to the Sanctuary.

Please take a look at the website link - you will see just what a brilliant job they are doing!!!!!  http://www.gambiahorseanddonkey.org.uk/

Thanks,

Kathleen

Your participation in our competitions allows us to give donations to Charities that need support.  So far we have given in excess of £3000 to Marie Curie Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

It is therefore right to let you all know what we have done with some of the funds today.

Thousands of children die every year in The Gambia from Malaria and Meningitis and all because their parents cannot afford to pay for a visit to a doctor for treatment - which could in some cases cost as little as £1.00 for a course of antibiotics, much cheaper than in the UK.

If anyone is interested in fundraising of any description which could assist in the building of a clinic to support local people out in the Gambia please get in touch.  There is already land set aside and an infrastructure worked out with Medicine Sans Frontier to run it free of charge.

Anyone wishing to comment or suggest anything please complete form below.
